Guides
The practical assessments: where an existing ERP actually stands, whether an organisation is ready to change it, and how to choose what to change it to. Each is designed to be done in days, not as a consulting engagement.
Why it matters
Most organisations start an ERP programme on a business case built from a vendor conversation. These three assessments exist to produce an independent starting position before that happens.
- A health check tells you whether replacement is the answer: Often the problem is process, data or governance, and a new system inherits all three.
- A readiness checklist tells you whether now is the time: Capacity, sponsorship and data condition decide this more than strategy does.
- A selection method tells you what to buy: Against your own requirements, weighted before demonstrations begin.
The three assessments
- 01
ERP health check
Where the current estate stands — function, data, integration, support, cost and risk.
- 02
Digital transformation readiness checklist
Whether the organisation can absorb the change it is proposing.
- 03
Finding the one
Selecting a product and an implementation partner against weighted, evidenced criteria.
Do them in that order. Selecting a product before assessing readiness produces a good product and a programme the organisation cannot resource.
What you need in place
- Honest input: The assessments are only as good as the willingness to record what is actually true.
- A named owner: Someone who will act on the output.
- Evidence over opinion: Counts, ages, costs and volumes, not impressions.
- A decision that follows: An assessment with no decision attached becomes a document.
Questions to ask
01Problem
What problem are we actually solving?
If it can be stated in one sentence, the scope will follow; if not, it will sprawl.
02Alternative
What happens if we do nothing for two years?
The honest answer shapes urgency and scope.
03Capacity
Who would do this work, and what would they stop doing?
The most common reason good programmes fail.
04Evidence
Are our answers based on data or on impression?
Impressions are consistently more optimistic.
Metrics and KPIs to track
Assessment currency
Time since the last health check.
Action closure
Findings with an owner and a completion date.
Readiness gaps closed
Before the programme starts rather than during.
